DHX Media is to roll out an iPad app for its CBeebies-commissioned live action family series Grandpa in My Pocket.

The device, modeled as an e-book, aims to help kids with their reading via interactive activities and a full music soundtrack for series fans.

The Grandpa in my Pocket: Horatio Heave Ho! ebook will initially launch on Britain’s iTunes store, with other territories to follow.

The iPad app features a Sunnysands bank manager who really wants to be a pirate, leading Grandpa and other characters to persuade him there’s more to life than treasure.

An iPhone and iPod Touch will follow in Spring 2011.

The Grandpa in my Pocket e-book is narrated by the character of Jason Mason, with voices by other Sunnysands characters.

Grandpa in My Pocket has been sold to Canal+ in France, ABC TV in Australia, French-speaking TFO, TVO and Knowledge in Canada, Al Jazeera Children’s Channel and Greece’s MCOM.
