Endemol USA has received a full-season order from U.S. channel AMC for Hell on Wheels, a post-U.S. Civil War drama to be shot in Alberta.
Entertainment One will produce, in partnership with Nomadic Pictures.
Endemol USA developed the project, with Joe and Tony Gayton creating and writing the series, and executive producing.
“AMC’s commitment to the western is long standing, and the genre is an important part of our brand and history as a channel. This show has some incredibly original twists and turns and a contemporary sensibility that we think will bring a very broad audience to our newest drama series,” said AMC’s original programming vice president Joel Stillerman.
The show’s cast includes Anson Mount, Dominique McElligott, Colm Meaney and Ben Esler.
Endemol will sell the U.S. cable drama across Europe, with Entertainment One distributing in all remaining territories, while holding worldwide rights for DVD/Blu-ray, VOD and digital distribution.
Hell on Wheels will also receive financing from the Alberta government and the province’s film development program.
