Banff to honor Howie Mandel

Canadian comic and TV personality Howie Mandel is to be honored at the upcoming Banff World Television Festival.

Mandel, who is stick-handling Canadian TV projects with local broadcasters as he tends to TV duties in Los Angeles, will receive an award of distinction at Banff’s 2011 edition.

“After thirty years in show business, Howie Mandel is a household name in Canada and across the globe,” said Ferne Cohen, executive director of the Banff festival.

Mandel is best known for his star-turn on St. Elsewhere, the animated kids series Bobby’s World, and hosting the game show Deal or No Deal, which included a Canadian version.

Previous award of distinction winners include Eric McCormack, Kim Cattrall, Paul Gross, Colm Feore and Paul Haggis.

The Banff World Television Festival is set to run from June 12 to 15.
