Indie producer Brightlight Pictures is on board the Weinstein Co.’s sci-fi “found footage” feature Apollo 18, which will shoot in Vancouver.
The theatrical feature has a tight December 20 to January 13 shooting schedule.
Spanish-language director Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego replaced Trevor Cawood as director of the sci-fi flick, to be shot documentary-style and with most of the action set in a rocket ship caught between the earth and the moon.
The haste for the Vancouver shoot is prompted by the need to post Apollo 18 and have it in theatres before another found footage actioner, Area 51, directed by Oren Peli, is released by Paramount Pictures in March 2011.
Shawn Williamson of Brightlight Pictures is executive producing the movie, along with Ron Schmidt and Cody Zweig.
Timur Bekmambetov and Michele Wolkoff are producing.
