CBC and ACTRA reach new deal

The CBC has successfully negotiated a new tentative labor deal with ACTRA concerning performers engaged by the public broadcaster.

The new agreement, to run until June 30, 2011 if approved by the union’s rank and file, will see performers receive a 1.5% pay rate increase, with the CBC contributing a new benefits administration fee.

Stephen Waddell, ACTRA national executive director, said the last round of talks on a labor deal for performers were complicated by the thorny issue of digital media residuals.

With those terms settled, Waddell said the current round of negotiations leading up to Thursday’s tentative deal called for no major alterations.

“We and the CBC believe the agreements are working well and so no major changes were required this time around,” Waddell said.

ACTRA members will vote on the new deal in the coming weeks.
