Pick the night and let the app choose your film and theater.

That’s the aim with Cineplex Entertainment’s new mobile app, available as a free download for smartphones and select digital devices from Wednesday (November 24).

Besides helping make movie choices, the mobile app will allow cinema-goers to purchase tickets, either with a credit card of PayPal, and receive exclusive content on current and upcoming movies.

The Cineplex mobile app is the latest sales and marketing tool adopted by the Canadian exhibitor as it looks to entice Canadians to watch its movies regardless of location.

In the run-up to the peak Christmas movie-going season, Cineplex has also joined the movie download business, allowing Canadians to rent or buy movies from its own website, Cineplex.com, day and date with DVDs and Blu-ray releases.

The strategy is to put Cineplex front-of-mind when Canadians think of movies.

So the mobile app will supply movie-going information for all Canadian theaters, not just Cineplex venues, by radius, with maps, phone number, admission prices, show times and ticketing information.

There’s also information on upcoming movies, including trailers, and box office results, promotions and an update on SCENE point balances.

The Cineplex mobile app was developed by Five Mobile, a smart phone application developer.
