Whistler lifetime tribute for indie filmmakers

Indie filmmakers Bruce McDonald (pictured) and Monte Hellman are to receive lifetime achievement tributes at the upcoming Whistler Film Festival.

U.S. filmmaker Hellman (Two-Lane Blacktop, Cockfighter) and Canadian colleague McDonald (Hard Core Logo, Highway 61) will join fellow director Atom Egoyan for a December 3 informal conversation about the indie film craft.

“WFF has always been, and will continue to be, a filmmaker’s festival and the Tribute offers a rare opportunity for audience members to sit in on an intimate discussion between some of the most celebrated directors of our time.” Stacey Donen, artistic director for the Whistler Film Festival, said of the planned tribute.

Past Whistler tribute award winners include Egoyan, Ivan Reitman, Donald Sutherland, William Vince and Norman Jewison.

The Whistler Film Festival is set to run from December 1 to 5 in the British Columbia ski resort.
