The Quaids invade 22 Minutes

Randy Quaid’s bizarre on-going quest to stay in Canada has taken him to Rogers Arena in Vancouver for an on-ice interview with Mark Critch of This Hour Has 22 Minutes.

“If you want to become Canadians, come on our show and talk about yourselves,” Critch told Playback Daily about the pitch to Randy Quaid and his wife Evi, to appear on the long-running CBC satirical show.

Turns out the Quaids jumped at the opportunity, asking only that the interview take place on the same ice where Team Canada beat Team U.S.A. to grab the hockey gold medal at the recent Vancouver Olympics.

And the fugitive couple came prepared to tout their new Canadian credentials: Randy Quaid donned lumber jack gear looking much like his ne’re-do-well cousin Eddie character in the National Lampoon’s Vacation movies – and Evi Quaid skated at centre ice in the Rogers Arena in a bikini, a Team Canada hockey jersey, and waving a hockey stick adorned with the Canadian flag.

“Evi is skating circles around Randy and Randy is in the centre of the ice, and she’s warning us that the star whackers are after Michael J. Fox,” Critch recalled, alluding to a cabal of apparent Hollywood star killers allegedly out to murder the Quaids and a host of other major A-list actors.

Critch said he wasn’t looking to set the Quaids off on another plea for refuge in Canada from apparent assassins.

“I said: How much of the star whackers thing do you want to get into, and they said, no, that’s what they are,” he recalled.

There is method in the madness, however.

The upcoming episode of 22 Minutes featuring the interview with the Quaids will air on November 23, just as Randy Quaid next appears before an immigration tribunal in Vancouver for his application for refugee status in Canada to be heard.
