Justin Kozuch (pictured) unveiled his nationwide digital media census at the Mesh Marketing Conference in Toronto yesterday, and he’s looking for help from the community to make it as rich as possible.
The survey is available in English and French , and will help the digi community see a fuller picture of itself, says Kozuch, lead researcher, Pixel to Product Research Study.
“The big issue, as I see it, is just a lack of available data when it comes to understanding the size and scope of the digital media space in Canada,” he says. “We just don’t know how many companies are out there, where they’re located, what their hiring practices are. There’s just nothing available to us in terms of qualitative, quantitative and behavioral insights, and that’s the problem we’re looking to solve.”
To get word out about the census, Kozuch called on everyone in attendance at his Mesh talk to spread the word through their networks by tweeting, posting, and emailing the link to the census website.
The report will be released in May or June 2011, but that won’t be the end of the survey. Kozuch wants to keep it going for at least 10 years.
“To do this once is exciting, to do this every single year would be incredibly valuable,” he says. “There are so many angles we can take and so many things we can measure, but for the time being, my focus is on laying the groundwork this year and then looking beyond year one and understanding what it is we can measure next year, how can we improve the measuring process, and make that process more solid so we can get more valuable data.”
