No surprise here: BCE’s Bell Fibe TV has secured the VOD distribution rights to virtually all of CTV’s primetime programming.

The phone giant is about to own CTV, after all, once it secures CRTC approval for a $3.2 billion takeover.

Bell Fibe TV subscribers will be able to view CTV series on-demand and for free, as the phone giant and rival cable operators roll out their own online video portals.

The strategy is to secure and distribute prestigious video content to Canadian cable and satellite TV subscribers to keep them onside in the face of new competition from Apple TV, Google TV and other emerging digital platforms.

BCE’s Fibe TV service is now available in Toronto and Montréal, ahead of around 2 million households to receive the service by the end of 2011.

Titles available on the service will include $%*! My Dad Says, The Amazing Race, Castle, The Colbert Report, The Daily Show, Dancing with the Stars, Desperate Housewives (pictured), Grey’s Anatomy, Hellcats, Nikita, Two and a Half Men and The Vampire Diaries.
