Indie producer Cineflix Productions will soon start production on a new reality series for Slice, In Law Wedding Wars, that helps engaged couples too busy to tie the knot pull off their wedding day.

Here’s the rub: the bride and groom’s respective mothers will compete to plan their wedding day, down to the bridal dress, rings and cake. A free high-end wedding planner will help each mother present their vision for the Big Day.

Then it’s back to the betrothed couple to decide which hawk-eyed mother prevails to run the wedding.

Slice and Cineflix may be on to something. Compromise makes for a long marriage, but not good TV.

Tears and tantrums, or stress and resentment, on the other hand, does promise TV drama.

Cineflex is looking to cast couples from in and around Toronto that are set to get married in December or spring 2011.

Slice anticipates a summer/fall 2011 launch date for In Law Wedding Wars.
