DHX Media swings to full-year loss

Fewer and less lucrative series orders from struggling Canadian broadcasters led indie producer DHX Media to swing to a full-year loss of $813,000 in fiscal 2010, against a year-earlier profit of $385,000.

“The company’s financial results for the full fiscal year reflect the lagging impact of last year’s recessionary effect on our broadcaster customers,” DHX Media chairman and CEO Michael Donovan said Monday in a statement.

Overall revenues were $40.5 million for the year to June 30, down 35% from $62 million in fiscal 2009, and due mainly to lower deliveries of proprietary shows from the Halifax-based producer.

Donovan added that a recent rebound in ad revenue fortunes for Canadian broadcasters bode well for DHX Media.

“As advertising activity has rebounded, new commissions have been announced and we have improved transparency towards increased business activity for fiscal 2011,” he said.
