Planet in Focus kicks off with Ron Mann Atwood doc

Ron Mann’s Margaret Atwood book tour documentary, In the Wake of the Flood, is to open the Planet in Focus film festival at Bell Lightbox on October 13, organizers said Wednesday.

The film follows the Canadian novelist traveling the world to promote her novel, The Year of the Flood, and urging political action on the part of her audiences.

And Planet in Focus will be book-ended by Brian Hill’s Climate of Change documentary closing the festival on October 17.

Also booked into the 5-day environmental film and video showcase is Liz Marshall’s film Water on the Table, which is up for a Gemini in the best political documentary category; and Cameron Esler and Tadzio Richards’ Burning Water, about a family’s plight with contaminated water in Rosebud, Alberta.

Indie producer CineFocus will screen GreenHeroes: Sarah Harmer on Friday, October 15th, presenting a short film about singer Sarah Harmer’s fight to protect a part of the Escarpment in Burlington, Ontario.

In all, around 100 films and video shorts will screen at the Planet In Focus festival in Toronto from October 13 to 17.
