Three thousand episodes later, Discovery Channel is commemorating the 15th anniversary of popular magazine series Daily Planet with a two-hour special.
Daily Planet’s Greatest Show Ever will film with a live audience at Toronto’s Ontario Science Centre with hosts Jay Ingram and Ziya Tong, slated to air on October 10. The show will contain new stories, favorite past moments, celebrity guests and experiments.
Previously known as @discovery.ca, the celebratory ep will naturally have an eye toward the future, and will do so with an on-air competition. It`ll feature a Science Centre Showdown, in which teams from five science centers across Canada will take part in a yet-to-be-named extreme experiment before a panel of judges. Also on deck for the special is physicist Jearl Walker to demonstrate physics principles on-air and a celebrity edition of the Mindbender segment.
“Television colleagues from around the world said we were crazy – that no one would watch and that we’d run out of ideas. Well, they were all wrong,” said Paul Lewis, Discovery Channel’s president and GM, as well as the show`s first executive producer.
Over at discoverychannel.ca/greatestshowever, the site will highlight photos, favorite videos and first internet columns over the series’ history. The special ep will also be available online following its broadcast.
