Bringing the real-life ethos of TLC north, Canwest is set to debut a new specialty channel this fall called Twist TV.
Premiering Nov. 1, the new channel will focus on lifestyle programming focusing on the more extreme aspects of everyday life, such as the Jon and Kate Plus 8-style series Raising Sextuplets and Dad Camp, which features future deadbeat dads learning to be better people for their girlfriends’ unborn children. New programming on the channel will also include 8 Boys and Wanting a Girl, and Little Miss Perfect, a show about child beauty pagents.
Targeting adults 25 to 54, Twist TV replaces Discovery Health Channel Canada, but will stick to its overall programming format of everyday people facing extraordinary situations. It will be available in two million homes at launch, through Rogers Digital VIP, Shaw, Cogeco, Bell TV, Shaw Direct and Videotron. Canwest acquired Discovery Health Channel in 2009, while the remaining Discovery properties in Canada belong in the CTV camp thanks to an ongoing partnership with Discovery Communications in the US.
The tagline for the channel will be “Life Throws Curves,” and details on the promotional campaign to support Twist TV will be announced late in October.
