The CBC family drama Heartland has been sold into 94% of the U.S. syndication market by Genesis TV and Film for the fall TV season. Genesis acquired the U.S. rights to the Seven24 Films and Dynamo Films series from international distributor Fireworks International.
CBC executive director of network programming Kirstine Stewart welcomed Heartland migrating south.
‘[Heartland] was our first move back into a CBC family show, and to have it work in Canada and the U.S. is very satisfying,’ Stewart told Playback Daily.
CBS, Tribune, Sinclair, Hearst, Lin, Meredith, Nexstar and Belo are among the major U.S. station groups to acquire the Canadian drama for mostly weekend primetime slots, according to Fireworks International. Financial terms of the U.S. syndication deal were not revealed.
NBC Universal Television Distribution will handle national advertising sales for the 22 original one-hour episodes of Heartland.
The fourth season of the family drama is now shooting in Alberta for the CBC’s Sunday night schedule, with star turns from Amber Marshall, Graham Wardle and Michelle Morgan.
