Cronenberg circles Lethem’s Table

David Cronenberg has a lot on his plate these days.

The Toronto filmmaker is reportedly attached to helm a big screen adaptation of Jonathan Lethem’s 1997 sci fi novel As She Climbed Across the Table, while he’s also planning to direct a sequel to Eastern Promises, his acclaimed 2007 thriller about a Russian mob family.

Cronenberg is currently filming A Dangerous Method (previously titled The Talking Cure) in Germany. The film follows the rivalry between Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung and stars frequent collaborator Viggo Mortensen and Keira Knightley. The busy filmmaker also linked to the drama Cosmopolis, based on Don DeLillo’s 2003 novel, and Robert Ludlum’s The Matarese Circle.

Set on the campus of North Carolina University, Table follows the romantic relationship between a sociologist and physicist, the latter who becomes obsessed with a hole, or passage to nothingness that she’s created in the lab where they work. Production company is California-based Film Rites, the shingle of filmmaker Steven Zaillian, who won an Oscar for his screenplay for Schindler’s List.
