Maple Pictures launched its iPhone app on Wednesday becoming the first Canuck distributor to put information and content for its theatrical and home entertainment releases on the mobile devices.

The free app gives users access to trailers, release dates and synopses for the Toronto distributor’s complete library including the upcoming actioner The Expendables. It can also provide showtimes with a list of theatres based on the location of preference, and has built-in social features allowing the viewer to subscribe to Maple’s YouTube channel and become a fan of the distributor on Twitter and Facebook.

In addition, the app has a ‘buy now’ button which directs users to the iTunes store if they want to purchase a title.

Expendables — featuring Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, and Dolph Lundgren — bows on Aug. 13. Other upcoming releases include the romantic comedy The Switch, with Jennifer Aniston, on Aug. 20, and the animated feature Alpha and Omega on Sept. 17.
