A hits on women

Nikita

CTV’s secondary channel A has set its sights on young female viewers with a fall schedule featuring two new pickups from The CW including action-thriller Nikita and college cheerleading drama Hellcats.

The female-driven series join returning dramas including Private Practice and The Vampire Diaries (also from The CW), the latter which moves to A from the main channel.

Diaries, starring Canuck Nina Dobrev, kicks off a strong Thursday lineup at 8 p.m. followed by Nikita — based on the Luc Besson film La Femme Nikita — which stars Maggie Q as a rogue assassin. Practice returns to its usual 10 p.m. slot.

Hellcats will debut in the Wednesday 9 p.m. slot following America’s Next Top Model, while a rerun of Criminal Minds airs at 10 p.m. (Minds will air in that slot every night except Thursdays and Saturdays).

A’s other new show, the CBS comedy Mike & Molly, is scheduled to air Mondays at 9:30 p.m. after Two and a Half Men. The sitcom from TV vet Chuck Lorre (The Big Bang Theory) follows an overweight couple as they attend Overeaters Anonymous in an effort to lose weight. Also airing on Mondays Law and Order: SVU at 8 p.m.

‘We are happy with the young female-centric core [for A] that we created with Vampire Diaries, Nikita, and Private Practice,’ says CTV SVP of program scheduling Mike Cosentino.

In early primetime, the channel will air Corner Gas and Access Hollywood beginning at 7 p.m.
