Not surprisingly, Pittsburg proved a bigger draw than Philadelphia as the opposing team to Montreal as far as viewership is concerned during the Stanley Cup playoffs.
The Montreal-Philadelphia round three series averaged 2.6 million viewers on CBC, slightly below the average for round two against Sidney Crosby’s Penguins, which scored an average 2.7 million viewers over seven games. (All numbers 2+).
The Canadiens lost 4-2 to the Flyers on Monday and were eliminated from the playoffs to the tune of three million viewers. While high, the number doesn’t come close to the final nail biter against Pittsburgh, which pulled in 4.2 million viewers earlier this month as Montreal defeated one of the top teams in the NHL.
CBC averaged 2.4 million viewers overall for round three action, up 118% over last year’s third round, though that was before BBM’s Personal People Meters kicked in. Total online streams were also up, with 356,000 views over six games versus 51,000 last year.
Philadelphia faces the Chicago Blackhawks in the Stanley Cup final this Saturday.
