Vanessa Paradis will star in the French-language feature Café de Flore from acclaimed Quebec director Jean-Marc Vallée (C.R.A.Z.Y, The Young Victoria).

Paradis, who is the partner of Johnny Depp, is a well-known actress, singer and model in France. She recently voiced the 3D French animation Un monstre a Paris, which also features Catherine O’Hara.

Café is a supernatural love story set in the 1960s and present day with Paradis playing the mother of a child with Down syndrome. Alliance Vivafilm is the distributor.

Production on the Canada/France copro gets underway this summer in Montreal followed by Paris. Café is produced by Montreal’s Item7, the new shingle of industry veterans Pierre Even () and Marie-Claude Poulin (Let It Ride), Vallée’s Crazyfilms, and Paris-based Monkey Pack Films (Mammuth).

In addition to Café, Valleé is also prepping the drama Lost Girls and Love Hotels with Kate Bosworth (Superman Returns) as a western woman trying to forget her past through excessive sex and drugs while working in Tokyo.
