Colin Geddes is adding another title to his resume as festival director of the new ActionFest.
The TIFF programmer will continue to head its Midnight Madness program, while also stepping into his new role at the all-action festival, to be held in Asheville, NC in April 2011.
Geddes is well-suited for the job. Apart from Midnight Madness he’s well known in Toronto for curating screenings of kung fu movies, and earlier this spring made headlines by donating some 400 fantasy, crime and martial arts films to the University of Toronto.
‘Our long term goal is to reinvent the film festival model and to evolve this festival and the ActionFest brand into all facets of action oriented content production and distribution,’ said festival founders Bill Banowsky and Aaron Norris in a statement.
Or, put another way, ‘to knock people’s notions of what film festivals are right off their shoulders with a cinematic roundhouse kick, and then blow them up for good measure,’ added Geddes.
Geddes will report to Tom Quinn, co-creator and executive director of ActionFest.
