Strand Releasing in California has picked up the rights to Passenger Side by Montreal’s Matthew Bissonnette.

The comic road movie — which debuted at last year’s TIFF and had a limited release here in April — is also screening at this month’s Marché du film at Cannes. Producer Corey Marr negotiated the deal with Jon Gerrans of Strand and Glen Reynolds of Circus Road Films. Mark Austin of Breakaway Media is handling foreign sales.

‘We look forward to working with Jon and Marcus and their team so that Passenger Side can reach the widest audience possible,’ notes Marr.

The film was named one of Canada’s Top Ten films of 2009 at TIFF, and has been making its rounds on the festival circuit, including the Los Angeles Film Festival, Atlantic Film Festival and BFI London Film Festival.
