Longtime Rogers Communications executive Tony Viner is retiring from the Toronto media giant.
Viner, 63, will step down from his role as president and CEO of Rogers Media once a successor is found, it was announced Tuesday. Viner came on board Rogers in 1982 and is credited with growing its media division from three radio stations to include publishing, digital media, over-the-air and specialty television services including the Citytv and OMNI stations and Sportsnet.
Rogers Media publishes over 70 magazines including Maclean’s and also owns the Toronto Blue Jays.
‘Tony has been a key part of our management team and has delivered solid results. Our media division has dramatically expanded and thrived under his leadership so that today Rogers Media has many of the country’s premier media brands,’ commented Rogers president Nadir Mohamed in a release.
Viner will stay on until his replacement is named to ensure an ‘orderly and seamless transition.’
