Imax to release 20 Warner titles

IMAX will release up to 20 Warner Bros. films in its wide-screen format between now and 2013 under the terms of a new deal unveiled Wednesday. The deal will see the Toronto- and L.A.-based exhibitor carry major Warner releases including parts one and two of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows, Happy Feet 2 and The Hobbit, a number of which will be offered in 3D.

‘Our track record with IMAX has been incredible, and incorporating 3D into this collaborative effort will serve as the ultimate experience for our audiences,’ said Dan Fellman, Warner’s head of domestic distribution, in a statement. ‘We are extraordinarily proud of our forthcoming slate.’

Other titles include a new Superman movie, a third Batman, Gravity and Dark Shadows.

Wide-screen and 3D versions of Hollywood fare remain central to IMAX’s bottom line.
