Three new names will be behind the Canadian films seen at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, which on Tuesday unveiled the programmers for its 35th edition.
Montreal film critic and Le Devoir columnist Martin Bilodeau has joined the festival, programming Canadian features alongside long-timer Steve Gravestock and Agata Smoluch del Sorbo, who, after years working with Canuck shorts, has moved up to full-length titles.
Short Cuts Canada, meanwhile, has added Magali Simard to its roster where she will work with Alex Rogalski.
Elsewhere, Andréa Picard, who has programmed the Wavelengths sidebar since 2006, will this year also contribute to the Visions program.
Festival boss Piers Handling continues to program films from the U.K., France, Italy and Poland, while co-boss Cameron Bailey oversees the U.S., Europe, South Asia, Africa and the Middle East.
Other programmers include Noah Cowan, who heads Future Projections; Kate Lawrie Van de Ven, who shares City to City with Bailey; and Thom Powers, who heads up documentaries and Mavericks.
‘These programmers are truly the best in the business, and audiences can once again look forward to a wide-ranging and exciting line-up in September,’ said Bailey in a statement.
