Global Toronto has scooped up Anne Mroczkowski for its flagship 6 p.m. newscast, which she will co-anchor alongside Leslie Roberts starting June 1.

The news vet was a longtime personality on Citytv Toronto, which she joined in the late 1980s when it was still controlled by CHUM. She was the co-anchor of CityNews at Six alongside Gord Martineau until January, when Citytv, which is now owned by Rogers, shed 6% of its workforce, affecting mostly newsroom operations. Mroczkowski was cut along with several other personalities.

‘I have always recognized [the Global Toronto news team] as a talented and dedicated group who consistently bring insight and perspective when covering stories in the GTA. I am excited to be a part of this incredible family and to share the anchor desk with Leslie, a journalist whom I have admired for many years,’ commented Mroczkowski in a Tuesday release.

Global Toronto’s GM Patrick O’Hara called Roberts and Mroczkowski ‘an unbeatable team.’ Roberts has anchored the news hour on Global since 2001.
