+ Tiger Woods’ much-hyped return to golf after a five-month absence in the wake of a bizarre car accident/sex scandal delivered solid audiences for TSN and Global. TSN’s first-round coverage on April 8 nabbed an average 742,000 viewers, marking a 63% increase over last year. Coverage on Global was up 60% versus last year, with the third round generating one million viewers, up to 1.7 million for the final round on April 11. (All numbers 2+ and based on PPM data.)
+ John Tory has joined TIFF and will oversee the final phase of fundraising for its new headquarters. The former head of Ontario’s Conservative party will, as chairman of the Bell Lightbox, look to close the $17.5 million gap that remains on the books of the new complex, which is set to open this fall. The campaign has been at $162.5 million, 82% of the $196 million target, since late last year.
+ E1 Entertainment has expanded its distribution network into France, signing a DVD releasing partnership with local indie Aventi Distribution. E1 is now in a position to acquire rights for six licensing regions – the U.S., Canada, the U.K., the Benelux and Australia/New Zealand.
