Two new projects about the early days of Greenpeace are in the works at Insight Production (Battle of the Blades, Canadian Idol) — drawing material from two books by the late Bob Hunter.
The Toronto shop revealed plans over the weekend for the dramatic miniseries Greenpeace: Making Waves, which will recount how a ‘small group of long-haired, media-savvy iconoclasts’ formed the environmental group, sounding the warning bell on nuclear proliferation, whaling and other issues.
‘Greenpeace has been a Canadian gift to the world; a legacy that changed the way we look at our planet and one of Canada’s most important stories that needs to be told,’ said Insight’s John Brunton in a statement.
A like-minded documentary, Greenpeace: How to Change the World, will be directed by Jerry Rothwell (Deep Water), exec produced by Brunton and Barbara Bowlby for Insight Productions. Al Morrow and Jonny Persey of Met Film will produce with Bous de Jong from Daniel Films and Earthstock Films’ Mike Puxley.
Both projects are based on the acquired rights of Greenpeace to Amchitka and To Save a Whale, written by Greenpeace co-founder Hunter
