Makers of children’s entertainment will meet during the Sprockets film festival to take a look at the issues and practices that go into producing and exhibiting challenging content for kids.
Deborah Ellis, a children’s author noted for tackling heavy issues, producer Linda Schuyler (Degrassi: TNG), CCI Entertainment co-chairman Charles Falzon, the OMDC’s Kim Gibson, and Amy Friedman, SVP of original programming for Nickelodeon’s The N, will on April 19 sit down for the Kids Should See This panel, organizers said Tuesday.
‘Producers, distributors and broadcasters consistently face the challenge of defining what constitutes appropriate content when producing and showing programming for young audiences,’ said Elizabeth Muskala, TIFF’s co-director of learning, in a statement.
The fest, part of the TIFF Group, takes place in Toronto between April 17-23, and will also host its ninth annual Jump Cuts Young Filmmakers Showcase. The program gives Ontarians from grades three to 12 the opportunity to see their work on the big screen, and this year’s lineup features 34 films ranging from animated shorts and to socially conscious topics.
