First it was Faith Evans, then Kiss, and now Ron Artest.
The Los Angeles Lakers forward is teaming up with E1 Entertainment and California-based Tijuana Entertainment (Obsessed, Is She Really Going Out With Him?) to develop and star in his own reality series They Call Me Crazy.
The show will follow Artest as the tries to make amends for past transgressions and help aspiring artists through his hip-hop label Tru Warier. E1 Music will supply marketing and distribution support for the label. The NBA bad boy once brawled with both fans and players at a Pacers/Pistons match and destroyed a TV camera at another game in New York. His legal troubles have included an arrest for domestic abuse.
The deal is the latest in the music television genre for E1, which recently joined forces with rock band Kiss for a kids series.
‘E1 is excited to be part of this series as it promises unprecedented access to one of the most provocative athletes in the world,’ commented E1 Television’s VP of alternative programming Tara Long.
‘This show will allow me to share my experiences with others, and hopefully people can learn from the mistakes I’ve made,’ added Artest, who will co-exec produce with E1’s John Morayniss and Long, alongside Tijuana’s Troy Searer and John Foy.
E1 holds worldwide distribution rights for the series.
