+ Jay Switzer is back on the industry scene, and is banking that the CRTC will okay not one, but two channels all about action, and another two about romance. The former top man at CHUM is attached to applications for the proposed Category 2 channels Velocity and Adventure, and Kiss and The Love Channel.
+ NBC Universal has inked a deal with E1 Entertainment for the global pay-TV rights to Copper. The deal – for 13 one-hour episodes – excludes Canada, the U.S., France and Germany. The Canuck drama follows the lives of five young rookies just out of the police academy. It is slated to air on ABC and Global Television, though airdates are unconfirmed.
+ The CRTC has okayed a new sports channel from Rogers. The Category 2 channel – known, presumably for the time being, as ‘Rogers’ Mainstream Sports Specialty Service’ – will include ‘extensive’ NHL coverage, Major League Baseball and ‘other mainstream sports.’
