$1 million for Seven Days

Daniel ‘Podz’ Grou’s Seven Days (Les 7 jours du talion) has crossed the $1 million mark in Quebec for Alliance Vivafilm.

The graphic thriller is the first homegrown feature to earn $1 million in 2010, and has been high on the domestic chart since its release on Feb. 5. It is the directorial debut of the Montreal director, who is best known for his TV work on Les Bougon and Minuit, le soir.

Seven Days is the story of a surgeon who captures the killer of his eight-year-old daughter and sets out to exact brutal revenge over the course of a week. It stars Claude Legault and Rémy Girard and is based on the novel by Quebec horror writer Patrick Senécal.

The film, which bowed at Sundance, was picked up by IFC Films in the U.S. and also recently sold to territories including Germany, France and the U.K. at Berlin’s European Film Market. E1 Entertainment holds international rights.

Rounding out the domestic chart for the week of March 5-11 is E1/Seville’s La dernière fugue from director Léa Pool, with $125,832 after two weeks; Alliance’s drama Oscar et la dame Rose, with $132,396; and KinoSmith’s documentary Last Train Home, which added $17,771 on three screens during the frame, for a box-office total of $87,073 after 12 weeks.
