British producer Firefly Films has hired Canadian director Kari Skogland to direct Beslan, a feature thriller based on the 2004 bloody school siege in North Ossetia, Russia.
Skogland will direct a script written by James W. Mitchell that reconstructs the events leading up to a September 2004 hostage-taking in the media glare that eventually cost 330 lives, mostly school children, after a botched rescue attempt by Russian authorities.
Filming on the British film will take place in eastern Europe this fall. Firefly’s Matthew Hobbs is producing.
Skogland, whose expertise in recreating real-life terrorist drama was revealed with the award-winning IRA drama Fifty Dead Men Walking, has also been hired by Canadian producer Miracle Pictures
