Kiss joins the E1 army

E1 Entertainment is set to rock and roll all night with Kiss, signing a production and development deal for a kids series with the iconic rock band.

Founding members Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley are attached to the unnamed project (Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer appear to be sitting this one out), executive producing along with E1’s John Morayniss and Frank Saperstein. Simmons is also in talks to appear in the series, though the comedic half-hour remains in its earliest stages.

The deal follows E1’s recent interest in musical acts, and Kiss’ knack for marketing.

‘Coupling E1’s successes and ingenuity with the global force of Kiss guarantees an express pass into the homes of our youngest Kiss Army members with a show of superior quality,’ said Stanley in a statement.

E1’s interest sprang from the band’s recent appearance in family- and youth-aimed media, such as its appearance on the 2009 American Idol finale, Super Bowl XLIV and recent licensing and merchandising efforts through M&M’s and Dr. Pepper.

E1 will produce and distribute the series worldwide. E1 and Kiss will jointly handle all licensing and merchandise for the series, including all music and exploitation rights.

Notably, this isn’t Simmons’ first foray into kids entertainment. He was attached to Nelvana’s My Dad the Rock Star, which first aired on Teletoon in 2004. He also lent his voice to an episode of SpongeBob SquarePants.

E1 last month tapped Grammy-winning singer Faith Evans to front new reality series It’s All About Faith. Her upcoming studio album will be distributed by the company’s music division.
