Some seven years after the title first appeared on the festival circuit, Space has sent the series version of Todd & The Book of Pure Evil to camera in Winnipeg, shooting 13 episodes of the supernatural comedy through local shop Frantic Films.
The series is a copro between Frantic, Corvid Pictures and Aircraft Pictures — building on the short that came out of the Canadian Film Centre’s dramatic short program in 2003. Director and co-writer Craig David Wallace is, this time, sitting in the executive producer chair alongside Frantic’s Jamie Brown and Anthony Leo and Andrew Rosen of Aircraft Pictures.
Alex House, who covered similar territory while leading YTV’s Dark Oracle, stars as a teenage metal-head who comes across an ancient tome that makes wishes, however absurd or puerile, come true.
‘Getting to make this series is proof that The Book of Pure Evil is real and actually works,’ said Wallace in a statement.
The cast is rounded out by Maggie Castle (Hank and Mike, The Time Traveler’s Wife), Bill Turnbull (The Jon Dore Television Show), Melanie Leishman (Victoria Day) and Chris Leavins (Slings and Arrows).
The series is directed by James Dunnison (Hiccups) — who shot the pilot last winter — James Genn, David Winning and by Wallace. Leo and Rosen also produce with Shawn Watson of Frantic.
