Hot off a bow at Sundance, Montreal director Daniel ‘Podz’ Grou’s gritty drama Les 7 jours du talion (Seven Days) is one of five Quebec French-language films that recently sold at Berlin’s European Film Market via E1 Entertainment.
The gripping story of a father who seeks revenge for his daughter’s murder will now be introduced to moviegoers in Germany, France and Great Britain, after it was picked up by IFC Films in the U.S in January.
Germany also picked up the popular thriller 5150, Rue des Ormes (5150 Elm’s Way), which pulled in nearly $1 million at the Quebec box office for producer Cirrus Communications (Nitro) in the first four weeks of its release.
Ricardo Trogi’s look back at his boyhood as the child of an Italian immigrant in Quebec City, Mille neuf cent quatre-vingt-un (1981) from Go Films, was purchased by U.S. buyers as well as Latin American Pay Television (LAPTV).
Director Kim Nguyen’s La cité, which will be released across Quebec April 9, was sold to France, while Poland picked up Un ange à la mer (Angel at Sea), about a young boy’s troubled relationship with his father.
Although Xavier Dolan’s latest film, Love, Imagined, was a sought-after property in Berlin, its European distributor Rezo Films says it’s too early to confirm any sales.
