Score: A Hockey Musical has added George Stroumboulopoulos and Evan Solomon to its eclectic cast.
The CBC duo won’t step out of their comfort zones for their first film moves, however. The Hour host will play a hockey arena announcer, while the front man at CBC News Network’s Power & Politics has been cast as a TV news anchor.
‘That two journalists with such a strong national presence should take time from their busy schedules to appear in the film is fantastic,’ said producer/director Michael McGowan (One Week, Saint Ralph) in a statement. ‘They are wonderful additions to our cast.’
Strombo and Solomon join Olivia Newton-John, Nelly Furtado, Marc Jordan, Hawksley Workman and Dave Bidini in the musical film, along with newcomers Noah Reid and Allie MacDonald. Score is being filmed in Toronto until March 8. The casting directors on the film are John Buchan and Jason Knight.
Mongrel Media will release the Mulmur Feed production on Oct. 22. McGowan is joined by producer Avi Federgreen and executive producers Richard Hanet (One Week) and Jody Colero.
Stroumboulopoulos is repped by Edna Talent Management in Toronto and by Lance Klein at Endeavor.
