CTV Ottawa has lost its news archives and sustained an estimated $2.5 million in damages after a fire tore through its newsroom early Sunday morning.
The four-alarm blaze, thought to have started at about 4 a.m., according to reports, gutted the newsroom, the makeup and equipment rooms and the office of longtime anchor Max Keeping, who is due to retire in April. The studio itself is said to be intact, though the full extent of the damage has yet to be assessed.
No one was injured in the blaze, and the staff have temporarily moved into CJOH’s sister, the Ottawa A station.
CTV stations in Montreal, Toronto and Saskatchewan are sending cameras and edit suites to Ottawa, according to Canadian Press.
The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
