CBC goes with Brooms sitcom

Men with Brooms

The CBC has put in a full series order for the Men with Brooms adaptation from E1 Television and Serendipity Point Films, while also picking up a second half-hour comedy, Insecurity, from Virginia Thompson’s Vérité Films.

The Ron James Show is also understood to have received a second-season order in the latest move by the CBC to fill out its 2010 schedule.

The CBC ordered both new sitcoms based on pilots that were shot last summer.

The pilot episode for Men with Brooms, written by Paul Mather, was loosely based on Paul Gross’ 2002 curling comedy and directorial debut, and portrayed four regular guys hanging out at the local curling rink.

The Insecurity pilot was directed by Robert de Lint and shot by Rene Ohashi in Saskatchewan in August.

No word on casting for the two new CBC sitcoms, or when they will air.
