Trish Stratus is taking her wrestling skills to the big screen, making her feature acting debut in Bail Enforcers, a shoot-em-up now filming in Toronto under Green Destiny Films and Black Fawn Films.
The former WWE star plays the lead in the film about a team of bounty hunters who run into trouble with a mob boss. Patrick McBrearty directs through his Green Destiny banner. Enforcers is his follow-up to the horror feature Psycho Ward, which was released to DVD last year through Maple Pictures and Lionsgate.
‘The script was written for Trish. We wanted someone that the audience can believe as a strong female lead… the role is physically demanding,’ producer Chad Archibald of Black Fawn (Psycho Ward) tells Playback Daily. The script was penned by up-and-comer Reese Eveneshen (Numb) from a concept by McBrearty.
Stratus retired from pro wrestling in 2006. She recently hosted her own travel show, Stratusphere, which aired on digichannel Travel + Escape, CTV, and Discovery.
The 15-day Enforcers shoot wraps on Feb. 19. The filmmakers have not yet locked a distributor, but plan to submit a rough cut to TIFF.
