Podz thriller goes to IFC

MONTREAL — The first feature by Daniel ‘Podz’ Grou, Les 7 jours du talion (Seven Days) will be launched in the American market by IFC Films

Set to have its world premiere at this month’s Sundance festival, the film is adapted from the bestselling novel by Quebec horror writer Patrick Senécal and stars Claude Legault and Rémy Girard. The thriller tells the story of a doctor who kidnaps the man who raped and murdered his daughter, in order to get his revenge. It opens across Quebec Feb. 5 through Alliance Vivafilm.

New York-based IFC (Paranoid Park, Transamerica) has not set a release date for the U.S.

Grou, acclaimed for his TV work for Les Bougon, Minuit, le soir, and others, will release a second film this year, 101/2, a drama about a troubled boy that also stars Legault and young Montreal actor Robert Naylor. It opens in the fall.
