Remstar, Dolan in Love

MONTREAL — Remstar will distribute the latest film by award-winning filmmaker Xavier Dolan, Les amours imaginaires (Imaginary Loves).

‘We saw the first images and they are beautiful. He is truly a poet. Watching his footage is like looking at a painting,’ Remstar’s head of sales and distribution, Nathalie-Brigitte Bustos, tells Playback Daily. ‘We are very happy to be working with him.’

The $600,000 budget film was made without help from public funders and tells the story of two friends who fall in obsessive love with the same person.

Financed by three private Montreal investors, Amours imaginaires stars Dolan, Monia Chokri (L’âge des ténèbres) and Niels Schneider (Tout est parfait).

The film was shot in Montreal and rural Quebec and is currently being edited by Dolan. He also produced with Carole Mondello and Daniel Morin. Amours imaginaires will likely be released in the spring or summer of 2010.

Remstar, which has also distributed films such as The Wrestler and Polytechnique, hopes Dolan’s latest project will make the rounds of the international festival circuit before its release next summer.

‘We hope it will go to Cannes,’ says Bustos, who describes Dolan’s film as more accessible than the director’s multiple award-winning debut feature J’ai tué ma mère (I Killed My Mother).
