Sony Pictures plans to make an English-language version of De père en flic, giving the Quebec box-office smash the Hollywood treatment via the producing team of Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull).
Denise Robert and Émile Gaudreault – producer and writer/director of the original comedy – will also work on the development of the redo. (For more on Denise Robert – Playback’s Producer of the Year – see page 16.)
The picture has raked in close to $11 million since its release this summer through Alliance Vivafilm, making it the highest-grossing French-language film of all time in Canada.
The Hollywood version is tentatively titled Fathers and Guns. The story follows a father-and-son cop duo who are forced to work together on a case.
