Rush drummer Neil Peart has signed on to record a special rendition of The Hockey Theme for TSN.
The sportscaster and Rush’s label, Anthem Entertainment Group, announced Friday that Peart’s version of the theme will be featured during National Hockey League broadcasts on TSN and French sister RDS throughout the remainder of the season. Details on its debut will be announced later.
Peart, the drummer and primary lyricist for Rush, has recorded 18 studio albums with the iconic Canuck band. Along with his band mates, he is a Canadian Music Hall of Fame inductee and an Officer of the Order of Canada.
‘Having started out as a Canadian kid who skated on his ankles, and never made a hockey team, it is particularly sweet to be invited to be a part of this national institution — if not on skates, then on drums, performing ‘Canada’s second national anthem,” commented Peart in a release.
Last year, Simple Plan and Barenaked Ladies recorded and performed their own versions of The Hockey Theme, shortly after it was scooped by CTVgm from CBC.
