ABC Family has acquired the one-hour CGI-animated holiday special Gotta Catch Santa Claus from Cookie Jar Entertainment.

The U.S. channel will debut the cartoon special, with William Shatner providing the voice of Santa, on Wednesday as part of ABC Family’s Countdown to 25 Days of Christmas event.

The special is based on the 2005 comic book I Gotta Catch Santa Claus by Trevor Taylor, who serves as executive producer.

Steven E. de Souza (Die Hard) penned the script about a young boy setting out to capture Santa Claus and reveal the true magic of Christmas before the dim-witted monster Le Freeze puts the holiday on ice forever.

The project is the latest from Toronto-based Cookie Jar since it expanded last year with the purchase of Burbank-based DIC Entertainment.
