Fuchs, Catto promoted at CBC

CBC has promoted Fred Fuchs, putting him in charge of boosting the financing and overseas appeal of its shows.

Fuchs, a producer with American Zoetrope before be moved north and joined CBC, will also oversee the network’s new feature film effort with Telefilm Canada, announced on Thursday. His new title is GM of production enterprises.

‘Over the past four years, Fred has played a leading role in the Canadian television industry in developing the funding models which allow maximum production value per dollar invested,’ said CBC EVP of English Services Richard Stursberg in a release, referring to Fuchs’ supervision of CBC series including The Border, Heartland, The Tudors and Little Mosque on the Prairie.

Sally Catto, previously creative head of drama, moves into Fuchs’ former role as exec director of arts and entertainment for CBC Television. The appointments are effective immediately.

Catto will lead the creative development of all CBC programming in in the areas of comedy, drama, variety, performing arts and children’s.

Both executives had been in their previous roles since 2006.
