Douglas takes WIFT-T prize

Shirley Douglas will take the International Achievement Award at this month’s Crystal Awards, getting a cheer from Women in Film and Television – Toronto for her work at home and abroad, on stage and screen.

Douglas ‘inspires so many of us in this industry,’ said Sadia Zaman, head of the trade organization, in a statement Tuesday. ‘She has consistently managed to do work that she loves, and at the same time remain true to her convictions.’

The annual prize acknowledges Canadian women recognized for their work ‘in screen-based media’ at home and overseas. Highlights of Douglas’ career include turns in Stanley Kubrick’s Lolita, David Cronenberg’s Dead Ringers and a more recent role as former U.S. secretary of state Madeleine Albright in ABC’s mini The Path to 9/11.

Douglas called the win ‘a tremendous honor’ and will accept the prize at the Crystals on Nov. 30.
