Stone to sleuth for 9 Story’s Harriet

Production is underway on 9 Story Entertainment’s Harriet the Spy, which has cast Wizards of Waverly Place star Jennifer Stone as the titular character in the new live-action TV movie, coproduced by Disney.

The movie will premiere on Disney Channels worldwide in 2010, in addition to CBC, Movie Central and YTV in Canada. The copro is the first of its kind for Disney Channel.

Production began Monday in Hamilton, ON, with director Ron Oliver (A Dennis the Menace Christmas) at the helm of the movie, based on the popular kids books series by Louise Fitzhugh. Stone plays high-schooler Harriet Welsch, who is determined to become her class blogger, while competing against a popular nemesis. Heather Conkie (Heartland) penned the script.

‘We are thrilled to be starting production on our contemporary interpretation of Fitzhugh’s classic novel and look forward to entertaining children and families around the world with this enduring tale,’ commented exec producer and 9 Story president Vince Commisso in a release.
