IFC claims Cairo

The U.S. rights to the Canadian romantic drama Cairo Time by Ruba Nadda have been acquired by IFC Films.

The indie drama had its world bow at TIFF, where it grabbed the best Canadian feature trophy before Mongrel Media recently launched Cairo Time on theatrical release.

Lizzie Nastro for IFC Films negotiated the U.S. deal with Victoria Cook of Cinetic Media, who acted on behalf of the film’s sales agent, Charlotte Mickie, EVP at E1 Entertainment International.

E1 Entertainment has long-standing film supply deals with Cinetic and IFC.

‘They [IFC] are our valued partner and have been for some time. They will bring superb marketing skills to the table as well as tremendous expertise in new media,’ Mickie said in a statement after inking the U.S. deal.

Cairo Time stars Patricia Clarkson as a Canadian magazine editor who has an unexpected love affair with an Arab man, played by Alexander Siddig, while stranded in Cairo.
